Volumes: ”View”

 

Volumes plays improvised music with attention to sound and minimalist variations in intonation and sonic textures.

In this material, and integrated in the sound of the ensemble is also psychoacoustic phenomenons that let the music take on an almost tactile quality.

 

Mayas use of the inside of the grand piano is direct and physical. Rasten has the same approach to his guitar using rulers, bows and stones creating long tonal textures. Together they have a wide range of techniques that makes movement and vibrations of strings to create long plates of sound. Upon this landscape we find Lavik Larsens and Hedtjärns airy but precise palette of sounds.

 

Mayas is a wideley used pianist on the international scene of improvised music. Her work with the trioGreat Waitress with Laura Altman (clarinet) and Monika Brooks (accordeon) aswell as the duo Spillwith Tony Buck on percussion shows off her individuality she has worked on as a soloist.

 

Isak Hedtjärn with his metal clarinet is also an active musician in free improvised music. He has done a lot of solo work and is also known for his projects Festenand Gordoa-Hedtjärn duo and his cooperation with Phil Minton, Mats Gustafsson, Kaja Draksler, Lindha Kallerdahl, Michael Zerang og Raymond Strid.

 

Torstein Lavik Larsen and Fredrik Rasten plays together in the duo Pip and the quartet Oker and have over the years toured the UK, East Europe, Germany, Scandinavia and Russia. Additionally are they also prominent figures in bands like Nåtiden, View from nowhere, Torstein Ekspress, Torg and Skadedyr.
